we have landed

September 15, 2012
Madrid  is the second largest city in Spain. Located in the middle of the country. This was our first taste of Spain. It was all foreign to us. We had some adjusting to do.

Protesters from 9 provinces were in town that day, protesting the economy.

Not sure what these guys were up to.

Here is Luis. He is a sheep herder from Spain. He helped us pick out what we should have for lunch. We learned the word Tapas very quickly.

A delightful little snack

Yummy Jaman. It is a ham that comes from an iberian pig that is only fed acorns. Funny, the pig is the color of an acorn. It looks like a giant acorn with a snout and a tail.

The people in spain love their shoestring potatoes and potato chips. Fancy this, a bed of thinly sliced, salty potato chips, smothered in anchovies.
That was a dish Bruce really enjoyed.

You might find this strange, but, sewer covers are unique to every city. I learned this from my friend Randy Gould. New Orleans has shooting stars on theirs and Lincoln Ne has the capital building. Madrid has the bear and a tree. It is a symbol of Unity among their people.
